Is business class worth it? An honest cost breakdown
We priced 240 long-haul fares out of Lisbon across a year. The premium is not what most people assume, and it moves in ways you can actually plan around.
Priority Pass, day passes, status matches and the fare classes that quietly include entry. A practical hierarchy, cheapest first.
Before you buy anything, check three things. A surprising number of clients are already entitled to lounge access and don't know it.
If your connection is under 90 minutes, don't bother — by the time you've found it, sat down and been served, you're boarding. And in a handful of hubs the lounge is genuinely worse than the terminal: more crowded, worse food, no natural light. Changi and Haneda in particular have public areas that beat several of the lounges outright.
The lounge is a means to an end. If the end is a shower, a real meal and somewhere quiet, sometimes the airport hotel's day rate does it better for the same money.

Seventeen hours in the air is a bad idea when a well-chosen 48-hour stopover costs roughly nothing extra. Here's how to pick one — and which carriers will pay for your hotel.
Every one of these has walked through our door. An EU passport opens most borders — it does not open all of them, and the gaps are where people lose a fare.
If any of the above raised a question about a trip you're actually planning, that's a fifteen-minute phone call — and it's free.
